About: By 1956 Elvis was already a global superstar, but like all young American men at that time he was required to do National Service. Although he was offered the chance to enlist in special services to entertain troops, he chose to serve as a regular soldier, which earned him respect in the public eye. He started his active duty on 24th March 1958 and after training at Fort Hood, he was then based in West Germany. The mugshot used to create this neon art limited edition was his de-mob photo taken shortly before he was discharged on March 5th 1960. In this neon portrait, Elvis appears to be holding the type of neon sign that you would find at a hotel or motel, which references one of his greatest hits “Heartbreak Hotel”.

Medium: Photo of original neon artwork by Louis Sidoli printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Matte Paper
