About: This print draws inspiration from the iconic track “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide” on David Bowie’s legendary 1972 Ziggy Stardust album. It pays homage to Bowie’s signature 1970s and ‘80s style with a nod to the “Gitane” French cigarettes he famously smoked, depicted through mesmerizing smoke swirling from a pair of lips in the vibrant French tricolour.
The centerpiece features a striking reinterpretation of Bowie’s original mugshot from his arrest on March 21, 1976, following a performance in Rochester, New York, where police confiscated approximately half a pound of a “smokable substance.” Held alongside Iggy Pop and two others for several hours before being released on a $2,000 bond, Bowie pleaded not guilty, and the grand jury ultimately declined to pursue the case—adding a layer of rebellious intrigue to this captivating artwork.
